Rebooting HSE at RusselSmith: Highlights from Our 2025 Health, Safety and Environment Week

RusselSmith HSE Week 2025

Last week, we concluded our annual HSE Week at RusselSmith, an event that challenged us to reimagine how to protect people, safeguard the environment and prepare for a resilient, future‑ready workplace.

This year’s event, themed “Rebooting HSE: Harnessing Intelligent Solutions to Create Safer, Sustainable and Impactful Workplaces”, brought together our people, partners and experts for a series of engaging debates, insightful presentations and practical safety training sessions. From exploring the role of technology in safety planning to strengthening a culture of accountability, each session encouraged us to approach HSE with renewed intention and innovation.

During the week, we were privileged to hear from Amb. Comfort Ekpe, a respected HSE professional, on “Building a Culture of Safety in a Digitally Transformed Workplace”. She emphasised that adopting a growth mindset towards digital technologies is critical, as resistance to change can hinder both safety and efficiency improvements.

On the final day, a distinguished panel shared their perspectives on the future of workplace safety. Femi Da-Silva, CEO of HSENations and organiser of the Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE), reflected on lessons from championing safety culture across Africa. Seun Awojobi, Technical Adviser to the Lagos State Safety Commission, provided valuable regulatory insights. Jonathan Francis, Head of Deepwater Maintenance Engineering at TotalEnergies, shared practical experience in managing safety within complex operations. Their combined message was clear: collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement are essential for safer workplaces.

In his remarks, our CEO Kayode Adeleke reaffirmed RusselSmith’s commitment to maintaining the highest standard of HSE practices across its operations, while staying true to our ESG policy and our culture of sustainable innovation.

At RusselSmith, HSE is not a campaign. It is the way we protect people, safeguard the environment, enable progress and prepare for what comes next. The momentum from our 2025 HSE Week will continue to guide us as we translate ideas into lasting action for a safer and more sustainable future.
