Breast Cancer Awareness

According to the World Health Organization, there are about 1.38 million new cases and 458,000 passing from breast cancer each year. Breast cancer has been identified as the foremost common cancer in women around the world, both in developed and developing countries.

In low- and middle-income countries, the frequency of occurrence has been rising consistently due to increased life expectancy, increased urbanization and adoption of western lifestyles.

According to BreastCancer.org, for women under 45, breast cancer is more common in African-American women than white women. For Asian, Hispanic, and Native-American women, the risk of developing and dying from breast cancer is lower.

Currently there is not enough knowledge about the exact causes of breast cancer, therefore early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone of control. If breast cancer is detected early, and if adequate diagnosis and treatment are available, there is a good chance that the disease can be cured. If detected late, however, curative treatment is often no longer an option.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer risks and promote the value of screenings, treatment and early detection. We at RusselSmith are joining millions of people and organizations around the world to spread the word. We encourage you to join the fight against breast cancer and save lives by educating people.
